⏵ character information
name: Dwayne ir'Dorn
canon: Original Character (Based in the Eberron setting in dnd)
age: 20
canon point: Right after he finds out that because his father had himself turned into an undead, even though his father is still walking around and fully aware, he is still considered legally dead by Karrnathi law and therefore all his debts get passed on to Dwayne.

history: Dwayne was born in Karrnath to Drake and Drucilla ir'Dorn, a pair of shifters who had risen in the ranks of Karrnathi society due to Drake's military prowess. Through most of Dwayne's life, his father was a celebrated general who led legions of the undead into battle. He wasn't home much, but when he was he'd push Dwayne to focus on training for combat and being the best future soldier he could be. The Last War was still raging at this point, and Karrnath has compulsory military service, so his mother encouraged this as well, knowing he'd have to fight if he wanted to survive.

Dwayne was eager to prove himself to his parents, and he enjoyed both fighting and sports in general, so he enthusiastically trained both for his own enjoyment and to prove himself to his parents. That said, he could see that his dad didn't have much of a life outside of the military, and he knew he wanted more from life than just fighting. He enjoyed the cheer of the crowd just as much as the rush of combat, and he loved meeting people and making new friends. Throughout his teens, in addition to wrestling and playing hrazhak (a shifter sport), he also took various jobs as an entertainer which he greatly enjoyed, even though his father thought it was a waste of time.

Then, much to his father's dismay and his mother's relief, the Last War ended before Dwayne came of age to begin his compulsory military service. He still had to serve it, of course, and he was sent to deal with Mournland horrors and Valenar raiders so it wasn't entirely without combat, but his father was still deeply disappointed that his son wouldn't be given the chance to prove himself on the battlefield in the way he had. This, perhaps, is why he was able to accept that Dwayne didn't want to extend his service into a full career when his two years were done, and he agreed to send Dwayne to Morgrave University in Sharn, on the condition that he use his college education to, at least in part, learn about real military strategy.

The fact that Dwayne wouldn't have the same military experience as his father wasn't the only shift Dwayne noticed from the man, however. His father was also driven to drinking and gambling from his own loss of purpose in the years that followed the Last War. Dwayne hadn't wanted to make his entire life about the military even before this, but seeing his father's depression only made him more determined to ensure he had a more diverse skillset. While he did take some classes on history and military strategy, he decided to focus far more heavily on theatre, because theatre never goes away in war time or in peace.

Dwayne generally enjoyed university, frequently getting into chaotic situations with his friends, but after a few months staying there he received two letters. The first was from his mother, informing his father had gone to have himself turned into a lich. A few weeks later, he got a letter from his father to let him know the transformation was complete, which meant he's legally dead, so his gambling debts would be passed down to Dwayne. Shortly after this is when he found himself in Etraya.

abilities: Dwayne is a longtooth shifter, so he can turn into a wolfman at will. In this form, he has sharp teeth and a powerful jaw that can deal significant damage. He is also much tougher in this form, and it takes more to hurt him and to bring him down. He remains humanoid enough to continue to wear his armor and use weapons, as well as being able to use his claws and teeth. Unlike a werewolf, his change is not tied to the full moon and while he might have a greater degree of wolf instincts when he shifts, he does not lose control.

Dwayne is experienced in the use of weaponry, particularly battle and hand axes, as well as being skilled in a hand to hand combat and wrestling. He has two years of peacetime military experience.

personality: Dwayne is bubbly, cheerful and generally wants what's best for other people. This is in stark contrast to what people typically expect from someone from Karrnath, a land known for harsh winters and their heavy use of the undead in their military. He's constantly coming up with elaborate plans to complete tasks and missions that involve a lot of theatrics, are often very convoluted, and may or may not be even remotely effective. When things go wrong, he tends to take things in stride and will instantly start trying to formulate a new plan.

Since he comes from a background where he was surrounded by a lot of things that give 'evil' vibes, there's a lot that doesn't ping on his radar as suspicious. It's never even occurred to him that anyone would consider raising the dead to be morally wrong, for example, and he simply sees necromancers as another class of squishy spellcasters that it's his job to protect as a fighter. Being surrounded by zombies, walking skeletons, vampires and other undead does not strike him as potentially dangerous or the least bit concerning unless one were to attack him. It's all just a normal day in Karrnath to him.

That said, unlike his father who chose to be turned into a lich, Dwayne doesn't want to become undead until his time has come to die a natural death. He's determined to live life to the fullest and loves entertaining others and playing sports and experiencing new things. He saw how much it hurt his dad to lose the one thing he dedicated his life to when the Last War ended, and because of that he refuses to ever let his focus in life be on just one thing, no matter what that one thing is.

Dwayne is also a Seeker of the Blood of Vol, so he makes it a goal to find the divinity within. He believes gods may exist, but that if they do they clearly aren't benevolent, so it's better to find power within oneself rather than trying to rely on the divine.
